UI awards seven lecturers, 33 students

The Faculty of Education at the University of Ibadan hosted its second annual Dean’s Prize and Award Ceremony, recognizing the outstanding efforts of 33 students and seven lecturers.

The event attracted notable figures including Vice Chancellor Professor Kayode Adebowale, former Vice-Chancellor Professor Idowu Olayinka, deans from various faculties, and heads of departments.

Professor Olufemi Adegbesan, the Dean of the Faculty of Education, emphasized the importance of the ceremony in motivating both students and faculty members.

He stated, “Today, we had the second edition of the dean’s prize and award ceremony, an eventful programme. 33 students from eleven programmes were given prizes and certificates for their outstanding performance in their various levels. Each of the students got N50,000 each and a certificate to back it up.”

In addition to recognizing student excellence, the ceremony included awards for outstanding lecturers across various ranks, culminating in the recognition of the most outstanding lecturer.

Adegbesan expressed gratitude for the success of the event, noting, “It is a programme meant to motivate our students and even our academic colleagues to put in their best. Seven lecturers were given the prizes, but one had the prize of the most outstanding.”

Among the celebrated students was Oyindasola Adams, a 400-level student of educational management, who praised the initiative and encouraged her peers to strive for excellence.

“I feel very happy; this is a reward for academic excellence. After working very hard, I am happy that the hard work is rewarded. I will say that everyone should put in the work, one day it will pay off. Everyone should strive for academic excellence. School is not a scam,” she remarked.

The dean Prize and Award Ceremony not only highlighted the achievements of students and faculty but also reinforced the commitment of the University of Ibadan to fostering a culture of excellence in education.
