The University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) has celebrated one of its distinguished alumni, Mr. Victor Joshua, for receiving the prestigious President’s NYSC Honours Award in recognition of his exceptional contributions to community development during his national service in Jigawa State.
A native of Takum Local Government Area in Taraba State, Joshua graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Education (Physics) from the UNIABUJA.

His leadership qualities became evident from the orientation camp, where he served as hostel governor, a member of the Camp Action Committee, and a facilitator in the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) unit.
While posted to the Jigawa State Ministry for Water Resources, Joshua identified pressing needs in Sabalari community and spearheaded numerous impactful projects.
These included constructing and renovating a nine-unit toilet facility for Sabalari Community Primary School, organising a women’s empowerment programme that trained and supported 84 women with start-up capital, hosting a large-scale health outreach across four communities, and providing free medical treatment with specialist referrals.
He also awarded scholarships, provided uniforms and learning materials to underprivileged pupils, led environmental sanitation campaigns in collaboration with local agencies, and trained over 220 corps members in plumbing and maintenance skills—equipping some trainees with start-up tools.

Joshua’s outstanding service earned him commendations from the local government chairman, 13 ministries in Jigawa State, and the Governor’s Award before being selected for the nation’s highest NYSC honour.
The University of Abuja, in a statement, hailed him as “a shining example of our commitment to producing graduates who lead, create, and inspire change wherever they are.”
