The Senate of the University of Abuja has elected Professor Gboyega Kolawole of the Department of English and Professor Kasim Waziri of the Department of Public Law as its representatives on the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board for the appointment of a substantive Vice-Chancellor.

The election, held during an extraordinary meeting of the Senate on the university’s Main Campus, drew participation from several senior academics. Other contenders in the closely contested poll included Professor Rosemary Udeozor of the Department of Educational Management, Professor Uwakwe Abugu of the Department of Private and Property Law, and Professor Salamatu Machunga of the Department of Microbiology.

According to the University of Abuja Act, the two elected representatives will join the Pro-Chancellor and two other members of the Governing Council on the Selection Board, which is tasked with recommending suitable candidates for the position of Vice-Chancellor.

Presiding over the meeting, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mathew Adamu, congratulated the newly elected members and urged them to discharge their duties with fairness, integrity, and transparency. He also commended members of the Senate for their cooperation and for ensuring that the election process was free and credible.

Professor Kolawole is a renowned scholar of folklore and comparative literature, while Professor Waziri is a professor of law with specialisation in intellectual property and competition law.
