UNICAL Lecturers Under Pressure to Complete Sessions in 12 Weeks

Lecturers at the University of Calabar are said to be presently under pressure to complete their academic calendars.

According to a report, the pressure followed the suspension of eight-month strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

The university management came out with an academic calendar for the 2nd semester to complete the session.

The school authorities are at the same time admitting fresh students to also begin a new academic year, findings revealed.

One of the lecturers, Prof Bassey Eyo Bassey of the Accounting Department, confirmed that the school is to complete the ensuing session within a time frame of 12 weeks.

He said students and lecturers are to cover every duty that ordinarily would have been covered in 16 or 18 weeks.

“As of today, no lecturer has been paid the accumulated salary of the 8 months strike.

“They’re working with empty stomachs.

“The Heads of Department are busy struggling to implement the new academic calendar as well as making sure lecturers under them do their work,” he said.
