A team of eleven young secondary school girls trained by the University of Lagos Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Laboratory (AIROL) has been recommended to represent Nigeria in a Greece-hosted robotics competition.
This occurred after the team took first position in a Robot Design contest at the First Leggo League (FLL), a national robotics competition. The submission deadline for the leggo league was May 27th, 2021 and the Judges reviewed between May 27th, 2021 to June 8th, 2021.
On account of their performance at the competition, the team will be representing Nigeria at a virtual international robotics competition to be hosted in Greece later in the year.
Out of 132 Teams drawn from 6 Geopolitical Zones, 1320 Team members and 8000+ Learners, UNILAG AIROL Team emerged 1st in Robot Design, 3rd in Robot Performance and 3rd Overall Best in the competition.
For the UNILAG AIROL Team, Chika Yinka-Banjo is Lead/Principal Investigator, Victory Yinka-Banjo is Coach I and Joel Adebayo is Coach II.
The enthusiastic students are carefully selected from UNILAG Women Society School, ISL UNILAG, Rola International School and Queens College.
University of Lagos’ Artificial Intelligence & Robotics Lab (AIROL) selected and trained the girls in robotics as a way of giving back to the community and preparing the young ones for an empowered future.
