UNILAG alumni empower 24 indigent students with 10m scholarship

The University of Lagos Alumni Association, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) branch, has bestowed scholarships upon 24 exceptionally bright yet financially challenged students from public secondary schools in the FCT.

The association disclosed that a substantial N10 million scholarship endowment was unveiled by its FCT members. This generous initiative aims to cover the tuition fees for six terms and also includes the Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) registration expenses for the selected students.

Chairman of UNILAG Alumni FCT Branch, Aliu Akoshile, took the lead in presenting N2.5 million scholarships to the beneficiaries. He highlighted that the 24 students were meticulously chosen through a rigorous screening process from the six area councils of the FCT.

Notably, former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Chief Kanu Agabi (SAN), made an individual contribution of N5 million to further support the educational endeavors of the selected students.

In an address to the recipients, Akoshile urged them to prioritize their education, maintain high academic standards, and steer clear of vices within their communities. He specifically encouraged female students to look up to the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof Folasade Ogunsola, as a role model, citing her exemplary academic achievements and professional success.

The prestigious scholarship ceremony witnessed the presence of Ifeoluwa Oyedele, Ph.D, the President of UNILAG Alumni Association.

The FCT Administration was also represented by Danlami Hayyo, the Mandate Secretary of FCT Education Secretariat. Emmanuel Ibe and A. M. Ajani, the chairman, and secretary of the branch education committee, respectively, were also in attendance, underlining the significance of this philanthropic endeavour.
