UNILORIN, Chinese varsity partner on academic collaboration

The University of Ilorin has entered into a partnership with the North-China University of Water Resources and Electric Power, Zhengzhou, Henan, China.

The UNILORIN ’s official bulletin released on Monday said that the agreement was formalised last Thursday (September 5, 2024) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, is to establish academic linkages and foster educational collaboration between the two universities.

This initiative aims to benefit both institutions by promoting academic cooperation in various fields, including education, research, and cultural exchange.

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Egbewole, SAN, and his counterpart at the North-China University of Water Resources and Electric Power, Zhengzhou, Henan, China, signed the MoU on behalf of their respective institutions on the sideline of the First Exchange Mechanism Conference of the China-Africa Consortium of Universities and the China-Africa Higher Education Dialogue.

The Conference, co-hosted by the China Association of Higher Education and the Association of African Universities, took place at the Beijing International Conference Centre in Beijing, China, from September 5 to 7, 2024.

The University of Ilorin is one of the 100 universities in Africa selected to participate in this programme, which is designed to strengthen educational ties and enhance knowledge exchange between African and Chinese universities.

The collaboration will lead to joint research projects, student and staff exchanges, and other academic activities that benefit both institutions.

Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony, Egbewole expressed optimism about the partnership and explained the importance of cross-cultural academic exchange in today’s globalised world.

While noting the potential for both institutions to utilise their strengths in research and education to tackle global challenges, especially in water resources and electric power, the Vice Chancellor pledged UNILORIN’s commitment to upholding and respecting the relationship in every honorable way.
