UNILORIN expels five students, rusticates 14 for various offences

The University of Ilorin, located in Kwara State, has taken decisive disciplinary actions against a group of students. The university administration, led by Director of Corporate Affairs Kunle Akogun, announced the expulsion of five students and the rustication of 14 others.

The decision follows a thorough review by the university’s Students’ Disciplinary Committee, chaired by Vice Chancellor Wahab Egbewole (SAN), during its 220th/221st meeting.

The expelled and rusticated students, totaling 19 in number, were found guilty of a range of offenses including misconduct, theft, examination malpractice, hostel bed-space racketeering, extortion, assault, admission racketeering, and beating a fellow student. Notably, six of the affected students were in their final year of study.

These disciplinary measures were applied across various academic levels, encompassing students from 100 to 400 levels. The affected students hail from diverse academic departments, including Art Education, Biochemistry, Mathematics, Physiotherapy, Performing Arts, History and International Studies, Linguistics and Nigerian Languages, Chemistry, Mathematics, Engineering & Technology, Industrial Relations and Personnel Management, and Anatomy.

The severity of the sanctions reflects the university’s steadfast commitment to upholding academic integrity and maintaining a conducive learning environment for all students.

As such, the University of Ilorin underscores its dedication to enforcing disciplinary measures in cases of misconduct, ensuring the institution’s standards are upheld and respected.
