Unilorin students win pre-doctoral fellowship in USA

Two students from the Department of Agricultural Economics and Farm Management, University of Ilorin, Innocent Enahoro Ojiri and Sunmibola Oyetola Olaniyi, have won Fellowship of the Centre for Effective Global Action (CEGA) in the United States of America.

The students stood out among a pool of applicants from across Africa, earning the opportunity to undergo specialized training in the pursuit of socio-economic development.

Enahoro Ojiri is set to embark on his pre-doctoral journey at Northwest University, while Oyetola Olaniyi is scheduled to pursue her programme at the University of California.

The predoctoral programme, as outlined in a covering document signed by their University of Ilorin supervisor, Khadijat Amolegbe, encompasses a comprehensive curriculum involving training seminars, coursework, conferences, and curriculum design, all geared towards fostering expertise in socio-economic development.

Furthermore, both of them will actively engage in cutting-edge research, amplifying their understanding of rural development and contributing to the global academic discourse.

The fellowship from CEGA not only serves as a testament to their academic prowess but also provides a platform for these young scholars to enhance their skills and build valuable research networks.

The significance of this accomplishment is underscored by the letters of appointment received by the awardees. Chelsea Downe, on behalf of CEGA and the University of Berkeley, conveyed to Olaniyi that the fellowship aims to equip scientists from Africa with the essential skills and research networks required for impactful evaluation curricula. Meanwhile, Ojiri’s letter of appointment, signed by Katie Dallia, details the array of perks accompanying his fellowship award.

This achievement not only reflects the academic excellence of the University of Ilorin but also showcases the potential of these two outstanding students to make substantial contributions to the field of agricultural economics and global socio-economic development.
