University enhances staff performance appraisal with e-APERS, e-PERS training

The Academic Staff Establishment (ASE) and Non-Academic Staff Division (NASD) collaborated with the Directorate of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) to conduct intensive two-day training on the electronic-Performance Evaluation Report System (e-PERS) and electronic-Annual Performance Evaluation System (e-APERS).

This training, held on April 29th and 30th, 2024, aimed to equip key university personnel with essential skills for the 2023/2024 assessment year.

The training was hosted at the Aderemi Makanjuola Lecture Theatre. It brought together Deans, Directors, and Heads of Departments/Units, as well as staff eligible for promotion, providing them with vital insights into leveraging these electronic platforms to facilitate staff appraisal, development, and progression.

University Registrar, Emmanuel A. Fanu, explained the significance of the training. He stated that it would advance participants’ proficiency with the Intelligent Staff Performance Appraisal and Development Management System (ISPADEMS) and Staff Performance Appraisal and Development (SPADEV) platforms.

“In line with global best practices, assessors are expected to be objective, just, and true to their conscience in the appropriate performance appraisal of their subordinates,” Fanu said, stressing the importance of fairness and transparency in the evaluation process.

Leading the training were Prof. Toyin Enikuomehin (Director, DICT), Samuel Otesanya (Deputy Registrar, ASE), and Mr. Michael Tadopede (Deputy Registrar, NASD), who provided comprehensive guidance on platform navigation and application processes.

They also elucidated the roles and expectations of both applicants and assessors, highlighting how SPADEV and ISPADEMS forms serve as vital tools for assessing staff effectiveness, productivity, and service delivery.

Distinguished university management figures including Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Olufunso Omobitan, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) Prof. Adenike Boyo, and other key administrators participated actively in the training, underscoring its strategic importance within the institution.

The training cohort comprised Provosts, Deans, Heads of Departments, Directors, Secretaries of Academic/Non-Academic Centres, Faculty Officers, Heads of Units, Programme Secretaries, and all academic and non-academic staff eligible for promotion in the upcoming assessment year.

The two-day programme concluded on April 30th, 2024, with trainers fielding questions and providing clarifications to ensure participants left with a solid understanding of the e-PERS and e-APERS systems, poised to enhance staff performance appraisal across the university.
