University receives ₦193 million for 1,068 students under student loan program

The management of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ebonyi State, has confirmed the receipt of payment for 1,068 students under the student loan program. The payment, which amounted to a total of ₦193,377,100, was disbursed on the 9th of September, 2024, as part of the 1st batch of disbursements. This development is a major step forward in providing financial assistance to students in the university through the government-supported loan scheme.

According to the university’s statement, the funds will help ease the financial burden on students, particularly those from low-income backgrounds, by covering tuition fees and other educational expenses. The student loan program is aimed at promoting equal access to quality education, in line with the government’s goal of expanding higher education opportunities for all citizens.

In a related development, the Managing Director of NELFUND, Mr. Akintunde Sawyerr, held a meeting with the Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State, Dr. Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe. The purpose of the meeting was to drive administrative support for the student loan program in Nasarawa State. NELFUND is playing a pivotal role in the implementation and distribution of the loans to students across various institutions.

The engagement between NELFUND and the Nasarawa State government signals a strategic effort to ensure that more students benefit from the loan program.

Through local government support, NELFUND aims to streamline the application and disbursement process, ensuring that eligible students can access the financial assistance they need in a timely manner.
