UNIZIK students rally for N2m ransom to secure release of kidnapped colleague

Students at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, have initiated a campaign to raise N2 million for the safe return of their fellow student, Miss Francisca Chioma, who was allegedly abducted while en route to a burial ceremony.

Chioma, a student of the Science Education Department, has been missing since April 5th, prompting concerns among her peers, friends, and family. According to reports, all attempts to contact her have been unsuccessful, leading to heightened anxiety within the university community.

The university’s Chief Security Officer, Ken Chukwurah, confirmed the incident and stated that relevant security agencies have been notified. He disclosed that the kidnappers have established contact with Chioma’s family, although it remains unclear whether a ransom demand has been made.

Initially, the kidnappers purportedly demanded N10 million for Chioma’s release, but negotiations reduced the amount to N2 million. The kidnappers have set a deadline of Tuesday for the ransom payment, prompting Chioma’s classmates and friends to appeal for public support.

A social media post by one Collins C. detailed the situation, urging individuals to contribute towards meeting the ransom. The post highlighted the urgency of the matter and emphasized the importance of collective assistance in securing Chioma’s safe release.

Meanwhile, Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, acknowledged the incident and called upon the victim’s family, friends, and potential witnesses to provide any information that could aid in the investigation.

The university community remains steadfast in its efforts to support Chioma and ensure her swift and safe return, underscoring the importance of solidarity and cooperation during this challenging time.
