The Theatre Arts Alumni Association of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has strongly condemned the assault of Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, a lecturer and the National Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the association, by an undergraduate student.
The incident, which occurred on Monday, February 10, 2025, was captured in a viral video where the student, identified as Miss Gooddy-Mbakwe Chiamaka Precious, allegedly attacked Dr. Okoye while recording a TikTok video.
In response, the alumni association described the act as shocking and unacceptable, calling for her immediate expulsion from the university. They emphasized that the act violates the ethical standards of Theatre Arts and the discipline expected within the institution.
“We commend the university authorities for their swift action in setting up a disciplinary panel to investigate this disturbing incident. However, we firmly recommend the expulsion of Miss Gooddy-Mbakwe Chiamaka Precious to serve as a deterrent to others who fail to abide by the university’s rules,” the association stated.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the motto of UNIZIK—”Discipline, Excellence, and Self-Reliance”—and ensuring that justice is served in line with the institution’s regulations.
They also reassured the public that such behavior does not reflect the values of the Theatre Arts Department or the university as a whole.
The statement was jointly signed by Ozi Okoli, President of the UNIZIK Theatre Arts Alumni Association, and Agim Christy C., the General Secretary.
