UNIZIK warns staff against unauthorized campaigns for Governing Council positions

The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has issued a stern warning to staff members engaging in unauthorized campaigns for positions within the institution’s Governing Council.

This directive was contained in a statement signed by Dr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, Special Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor (Information and Public Relations), and disseminated to journalists in Awka on Saturday.

The statement specifically advised that any ongoing campaigns for the election of four members from the University Senate, two from the Congregation, and one from the Convocation should cease immediately. The university management has noted with concern that certain staff members have begun unauthorized campaigns ahead of the Governing Council elections.

“The university management has become aware that certain staff members have begun unauthorized campaigns for the upcoming Governing Council elections,” the statement read. It further emphasized that the management strongly disapproves of public campaigns by individuals seeking to fill vacant positions on the University Council.

Highlighting the unauthorized activities, the statement revealed that some individuals have been creating WhatsApp groups and engaging in other forms of public mobilization, which are strictly prohibited by the university.

“The university management unequivocally condemns these actions and the activities of those seeking to undermine the peace of the university,” it stated.

“We urge all concerned to desist from these activities immediately. The university is committed to ensuring a transparent and orderly process for the election of Council members, adhering to established procedures. Any attempts to influence or manipulate this process, including unauthorized campaigning, will not be tolerated,” the statement continued.
