The University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) has been thrown into mourning following the tragic death of a student, Nwankwo Chukwuebuka, who lost his life in a fatal accident involving ten students along the Opi–Nsukka Road on Saturday night, November 1, 2025.
According to a statement issued on Monday, November 3, by the Acting Public Relations Officer of the university, Inya Egwu, the students were travelling from Nsukka to Enugu to attend a concert by Nigerian music star, Davido, when the unfortunate incident occurred.
Egwu said the injured students were rushed to Bishop Shanahan Hospital, Nsukka, for immediate medical attention. While some have been discharged, others are still receiving treatment for more severe injuries.

“The University Management extends heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the deceased, praying for the peaceful repose of his soul, and wishes the injured students a quick recovery,” Egwu said.
The university, while expressing its grief, cautioned students against unnecessary or night-time travel, urging them to always seek clearance from the Student Affairs Department before embarking on trips outside campus.
The statement reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to student safety and welfare, stressing that UNN will continue to support those affected by the accident and intensify efforts to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
