The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has issued a serious warning to all candidates sitting for the ongoing examination, raising concerns over increasing cases of indecent dressing at examination centers.

In a strongly worded notice from the WAEC Headquarters, the council expressed dismay that some schools and centers are now permitting candidates to dress inappropriately, which they described as “violating the examination rules.”

“We have come to realize that schools and centers are now permitting students writing (sic) WAEC examination with indecency, dressing anyhow with unpresentable and violating the examination rules,” the notice read.

WAEC emphasized that all candidates must adhere strictly to their respective school dress codes and grooming standards. This includes dressing modestly and ensuring moderate haircuts and hairstyles.

To enforce compliance, WAEC announced that its external supervisors will begin visiting all examination centers from Friday, 23rd May 2025.

The council did not mince words about the consequences of non-compliance. “Please note that any candidate found violating these guidelines will face consequences, including withholding of results,” it warned.

WAEC concluded the statement with encouragement for all students: “We encourage all candidates to take this reminder seriously and make necessary adjustments to avoid any issues during the examination. We wish you all the best in your examinations.”

The council urged schools and students alike to uphold discipline and maintain the integrity of the examination process.
