“We’re committed to their welfare”—LASU VC hosts student leaders to strategic breakfast meeting

The Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Prof. Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, on Thursday, 22nd May 2025, hosted the 35th Lagos State University Students’ Union (LASUSU) leaders to a “Breakfast Meeting” at the Vice-Chancellor’s Conference Room, 6th floor, Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, Ojo Campus.

The interactive session brought together top university management members and students’ union executives to deliberate on key student-related issues, including infrastructure, security, and academic support.

Prof. Olatunji-Bello praised the student leaders for their collaboration with the university management, stating, “We appreciate the synergy between the Students’ Union and the university. Our administration is committed to creating an atmosphere conducive for learning and skills development.”

During the meeting, LASUSU leaders expressed gratitude to the management for its continuous support and presented a series of welfare-driven requests. Among the issues discussed were the maintenance of the Students’ Union arcade, enhanced campus security, and improved lighting in faculties.

The Vice-Chancellor assured the student leaders that their concerns were noted and would be addressed with urgency and transparency. She emphasized that student welfare remains a top priority of her administration.

The meeting had in attendance several principal officers of the university, including the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academics), Prof. Oseni Afisi; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Adenike Boyo; Registrar, Mr Emmanuel Fanu; and the University Librarian, Dr Omawunmi Makinde. Others present included representatives of the Bursary Department, Students’ Affairs Division, and the Centre for Information and Public Relations.

Also present were the Acting Dean of Students’ Affairs, Dr Abiodun Fatai-Abatan; Deputy Registrar, Vice-Chancellor’s Office, Dr Lateef Shekoni; Deputy Registrar/Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Dr Lateef Salami; and Deputy Registrar, Students’ Affairs Division, Mr Abdulhameed Lawal.

The meeting concluded with a renewed sense of partnership between management and student leaders, reinforcing a shared commitment to building a more inclusive and responsive academic environment at LASU.
