Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has taken a bold step toward transforming the state’s education sector with the constitution of a Task Force on the Revitalization of Basic Education.

Announcing the approval, the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, said the newly formed committee reflects the governor’s firm resolve to reposition basic education and improve learning outcomes across Gombe.

The Task Force, chaired by the Commissioner for Education, Professor Aishatu Maigari, includes notable education experts such as Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, OON, Mr. Mataimaki Tom Maiyashi, Engr. The Executive Chairman of the Gombe State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Professor Esrom Toro Jokthan, will serve as Secretary, while the Permanent Secretary, Special Services and Political, will act as Assistant Secretary.

According to Njodi, the Task Force is mandated to carry out a comprehensive assessment of the current state of basic education in Gombe State, identify pressing challenges, and recommend actionable strategies to ensure accessible, inclusive, and quality learning for every child.

“The Task Force is to undertake a holistic evaluation of the basic education system, develop sustainable reforms, and propose implementable solutions that will restore efficiency and excellence in primary and junior secondary education,” the SSG stated.

Governor Yahaya, who has consistently prioritized education as a cornerstone of human capital development, said the initiative underscores his administration’s unwavering commitment to revitalizing the education sector.

The establishment of the Task Force on the Revitalization of Basic Education in Gombe is expected to accelerate reforms, strengthen institutions, and bridge gaps in teaching and learning infrastructure across the state.
