Yobe govt partners SMEDAN on graduate employment

The Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has taken a proactive step towards addressing the issue of unemployment among graduates in the state by partnering with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria.

During a meeting which was held on Monday, with the SMEDAN’s Director General, Mr. Charles Odili, the governor, expressed deep concerns and empathy over the plight of unemployed graduates in the state.

In a statement released by Mamman Mohammed, the Director General of Press and Media Affairs to the Yobe Governor, emphasised that the Yobe State government is dedicated to creating employment opportunities that will enable graduates to support their families and lead lives of dignity and prosperity.

Buni, while highlighting the state government’s recent efforts at employing university graduates, diploma holders, and National Certificate of Education graduates across the 178 political wards in the state, pledged his administration’s continued commitment to ensuring that the people have access to sustainable employment for decent livelihood.

The governor affirmed, “We are resolute in our determination to facilitate the employment and self-employment of our graduates.”

He also commended the success stories of numerous youths who have not only found employment through skills training but have also become employers.

It was reported that the Yobe State collaboration with SMEDAN is regarded as a significant initiative by the state government to bolster job creation efforts.

Odili, while expressing the agency’s readiness to work partnership with the Yobe State government, especially in the area of job creation and opportunities for graduates outlined SMEDAN’s focus on developing micro, small, and medium-scale enterprises to promote self-employment among beneficiaries.

“This partnership occupies a very special place in the heart of our administration, and we are committed to securing jobs for our youths.
“The government will explore the potential in each of the 17 local government areas to provide means of livelihood and economic prosperity to our youths,” Odili added.

Also, at the event, Hajiya Fatsuma Talba, the Honourable Member representing Nangere/Potiskum Federal Constituency, underscored the collective commitment to empowering the youth and fostering economic prosperity across the state.
