Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has charged the Governing Council of Kashim Ibrahim University to champion innovative research and community-focused initiatives that will drive the state’s post-insurgency recovery.
The governor gave the directive on Tuesday while inaugurating the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Dr. Muhammadu Indimi, alongside other members of the Governing Council at the Council Chamber of the Government House, Maiduguri.
Zulum emphasised that the university must go beyond conventional academics to become a hub of cutting-edge research, innovation, and sustainable community development.
According to him, higher institutions in the state have a strategic role to play in addressing socio-economic challenges caused by years of insurgency and in unlocking new opportunities for growth.
He urged the new council to ensure that the institution develops programmes and research outputs that align with Borno’s recovery agenda, particularly in rebuilding communities, restoring livelihoods, and enhancing human capital development.
The governor commended Dr. Indimi for accepting to serve and expressed confidence in the council’s capacity to guide the young university towards academic excellence and societal impact.
The inauguration marks a significant step in strengthening the leadership framework of Kashim Ibrahim University, which is expected to contribute meaningfully to peacebuilding and sustainable development in Borno State.
