Ten-year-old girl Amara Henry has released her debut book to instil good virtues in Nigerian children and inspire them to become positive contributors to society.
The book, “My Decade of Creative Writing,” was unveiled by the Supreme Foundation Education in Magodo, Lagos State, on Saturday.
It is a collection of Amara’s creative writing from primary school, highlighting her talent and passion for storytelling.
Amara’s mother, Agatha Henry-Ajala, said, “The book is more than just a collection of stories. It captures Amara’s journey as a writer, highlighting her growth in style and technique over the years. The book also offers valuable writing tips, making it an inspirational resource for aspiring young authors.”
The book reviewer and lecturer at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Dr. Ini-Ibehe Okoko, commended Amara’s dedication, noting the book’s interactive features that promote active learning and stimulate creativity in young readers.
She said, “This book is a true inspiration, not only because of the creative stories and valuable writing tips shared in the book but because it also shows the power of dedication and imagination at such a tender age. I understand she started compiling these stories when she was in year one.
“If you go through her book, you see lessons on kindness, forgiveness, hard work, perseverance. And it keeps encouraging other children never to give up. They should bring out the best in them.
“Her story is very conversational. Yes, and you see the zeal and enthusiasm she has in her. She wants to push others and encourage others to be like her. And that is very, very outstanding. The world needs more minds like Amara. She’s a very kind-hearted young girl, and I can’t wait to see where she’s getting to with this writing journey.”
Acknowledging those who supported her journey to becoming an author, Amara said, “My book is a summary of all my creative writing from years one to four.
“As my mum mentioned, I’ve loved creative writing from a very young age and always enjoyed writing. My teacher encouraged me a lot, which helped me develop my passion.”
