After a period of uncertainty caused by the suspension of Tajudeen Odetayo, the Rector of Osun State Polytechnic, and a subsequent strike by the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) OSPOLY Chapter, the polytechnic community can now breathe a sigh of relief as academic activities are set to resume fully on Monday, August 14, 2023.

The closure of the institution had been met with concern and protests from students, who demanded a swift resolution to the issues causing the disruption of their academic pursuits. Following the assurances given by Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi and Speaker RT. Hon. Prince Adewale Egbedun, the polytechnic administration has taken concrete steps towards reopening the institution.

In an official statement signed by Oyesowo Lawrence, the Acting Registrar of the institution, the polytechnic community has been informed of the resumption of academic activities. The statement reads:

“I am directed to inform the polytechnic community that academic activities will resume fully on Monday, 14th August 2023. In view of this, all members of staff are to resume duties as appropriate. You are advised to comply accordingly. Thank you.”
Also, after a congress held by senior staff of the polytechnics and non-academic staff union of polytechnics strike action has been suspended. This was contained in a memo released and signed by the leadership of the association.

This announcement brings a glimmer of hope to the students and staff of Osun State Polytechnic, signaling an end to the period of uncertainty and disruption.

With the commitment of both the polytechnic administration and government officials to resolving the issues at hand, there is an air of anticipation as the campus prepares to come back to life with the hustle and bustle of academic activities.

As the reopening date approaches, students, faculty members, and staff are expected to eagerly return to the campus, ready to resume their educational journey and regain the momentum that had been temporarily halted.

The collaborative efforts between the government, polytechnic administration, and students have paved the way for this positive development, highlighting the power of collective action and dialogue in achieving meaningful change.
