German Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s visit to Nigeria on October 30, 2023, included a stop at the MAD House of the University of Lagos.
Scholz, who had arrived in Nigeria on October 29, 2023, had previously met with President Bola Tinubu. His visit to Lagos also involved attending the opening session of a Nigeria-Germany Business Conference organized by the Nigerian-German Chamber of Commerce.
Scholz and his delegation made an entrance to the UNILAG Campus via the Lagoon Front, marking him as the first international visitor to do so. The University’s management, led by Vice-Chancellor Professor Folasade Ogunsola, welcomed the German delegation.
During the visit, Olaf Scholz had an interaction with start-up entrepreneurs at the MAD House, a creative incubation space founded by Bayo Omoboriowo.
The MAD House’s mission is to nurture innovative ideas and transform them into products and industries. Scholz was impressed with the intentions, mission, and quality of innovation at the MAD House, which he believes will foster international collaborations.
The MAD House project, initiated in 2018, was completed in 2023 and serves as a creative space for individuals between the ages of 18 and 35.
