President Bola Tinubu has announced plans to establish 24 skills and vocational hubs in polytechnics nationwide, with a commitment to fostering entrepreneurship by creating dedicated centers in universities.

Speaking through the Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, during the 38th convocation ceremony of Bayero University Kano (BUK), President Tinubu outlined additional initiatives, including the revival of 970 Tsangaya centers for Almajiri education and the construction of 91 vocational schools in secondary institutions across the country.

“We are also building 91 vocational schools in the secondary schools across the country to ensure that all levels of education feel the impact of our policy,” he said.

According to the president, the focus is to ensure a comprehensive impact on all levels of education.

BUK’s Vice-Chancellor, Sagir Abbas, highlighted the university’s commendable achievements, ranking as the fifth-best university in Nigeria in the 2024 World University Assessment by Times Higher Education.

“Bayero University, Kano, emerged as the fourth best university in Nigeria in the February 2023 ranking of universities released by Times Higher Education (THE).

“I am also delighted to inform you that in the latest 2024 World University Assessment by the Times Higher Education of the United Kingdom, BUK was ranked the fifth best in Nigeria.

“It is trailing Covenant University, the University of Ibadan, the University of Lagos and the Federal University of Technology, Akure as first, second, third and fourth, respectively,” he said.

He attributed this success to the concerted efforts of the university’s management and Senate in achieving their set objectives.
