One World Media has opened applications for the 2024 Global Short Docs Forum, targeting journalists and filmmakers in Kenya and Nigeria.

The forum aims to bolster solution-focused health reporting by providing a collaborative environment for 12 selected participants to enhance their skills and explore new visual storytelling techniques on health issues affecting their regions.

Benefits:
Participants will engage in a two-phase initiative starting with a series of intensive workshops. The most promising project ideas from this initial phase will receive a production grant of $7,000. These selected projects will be further supported by mentors and editors to ensure high-quality storytelling. Final productions will be showcased at local events and made accessible online, providing a platform for wider audience engagement.

Eligibility:
Applicants must be residents of Kenya or Nigeria, with a minimum of three years’ experience as filmmakers, broadcast, or print journalists. They should have a history of publishing human interest or health-related stories in national media. While it’s not mandatory, the forum encourages applications from journalists based outside the major metropolitan areas of Nairobi and Lagos, aiming to diversify perspectives by including county-based journalists and correspondents.

Application process:
Participants must ensure they can balance their regular work commitments with the demands of the forum’s schedule, as full participation in workshops and the final production phase is required. Apply here.

Application deadline: June 17, 2024.
