FUTA gets new academic planning director

The Management of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA has appointed Professor Oluwaseyi Alabi Awodele of the Department of Quantity Surveying as the Director, Academic Planning of the Institution for a period of two years effective August 1st, 2024.

Awodele, a native of Ogbaagba, Ola Oluwa Local Government Area of Osun State, attended Aipate Baptist Day School, Iwo between 1976 and 1981 for his primary education and Baptist High School, Iwo and Ikonifin Community Grammar School, Ikonifin-Iwo between 1981 and 1987 for secondary. He proceeded to The Polytechnic, Ibadan where he earned a National Diploma in Quantity Surveying in 1992 and topped it with Bachelor and Master of Technology degrees in Quantity Surveying from the Federal University of Technology, Akure in 1997 and 2003 respectfully before crowning it with a Doctor of Philosophy in Construction Project Management from Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom in 2012.

Awodele distinguished himself as a renowned scholar early in life by demonstrating his brilliancy while an undergraduate as the Best Graduating Student in the School of Environmental Technology (SET) in 1996/1997 session. He also won the Departmental Award for the Student with the highest CGPA in SET, FUTA in the 1996/1997-degree examination having been on University Scholarship Award to Student on Dean List in SET between 1992-1995 academic sessions.

He also enjoyed a PhD Tuition Waiver from School of the Built Environment, Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland, United Kingdom between 2008 and 2012 among other distinctions.
Awodele joined the services of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA in 2000 as a Graduate Assistant in the Department of Quantity Surveying and through dint of consistent hard work and excellence he became a Professor on October 1st, 2019.

He was Acting Head of Department of Quantity Surveying, August 2014-July 2017 and Sub Dean, Master’s Degree Programme, School of Post Graduate Studies, FUTA, 2017-2019 in addition to serving as Chairman and member of several University committees.
Outside FUTA, Professor Awodele served as Member, National Executive Council, Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (2021-2023); Chairman, Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, Ondo State Chapter (2021-2023); Deputy Chairman, Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, Ondo State Chapter (2019-2021) in addition to serving as Resource Person on the National Universities Commission (NUC) and Quantity Surveyors Registration Board of Nigeria (QSRBN). He also served as External Examiner/Assessor of Post Graduate Theses and Assessment of candidates for promotion to Professorial cadre in various Universities among others.
Awodele, a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (FNIQS) and a Registered Quantity Surveyor (RQS) is married and the union is blessed with children.
