The acting Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Kano, Sadi Sirajo, has expressed heartfelt gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for his landmark decision to upgrade the Federal College of Education (FCE), Kano, to a University of Education.
This significant transformation marks a pivotal moment in Nigeria’s educational landscape and has been met with widespread enthusiasm.
In a telephone interview with journalists on Monday, Sirajo stated, “It is a bold step proving that the Tinubu-led government is capable of re-engineering the country’s education sector for optimal growth.”
He emphasized that President Tinubu deserves accolades for taking the decisive action to elevate the standard of the Federal College of Education, Kano, to a university status.
Sirajo conveyed his optimism about the positive impacts this upgrade will have on academic excellence and the opportunities it will provide for the increasing number of applicants. “Indeed, it has become necessary to lend my voice in appreciating President Tinubu for the bold step he took in approving the conversion and directing its immediate implementation. This will surely promote formal and informal employment. It will also see to the establishment of additional departments/faculties that will offer professional courses that are of high demand in the present 21st century,” he added.
He assured that the institution’s qualified manpower would receive comprehensive support to ensure a successful launch of the university. “So far, the infrastructure available on the campus is good enough for the smooth takeoff of the university,” Sirajo noted.
Reflecting on the long journey toward this achievement, he described the struggle for the university’s conversion as a collective effort of dedicated Nigerians passionate about advancing teacher education in the country. “The agitation for the conversion started many years ago and culminated in the elevation of the college to a University of Education. The upgrade was, however, suspended by the subsequent administration, which again ignited a fresh struggle for reversal of the suspension. Alhamdulillah, by the grace of God, we are proudly a University of Education today,” he explained.
Sirajo recognized the contributions of key political figures in this success, stating, “We remain indebted to the magnanimity of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Ministry of Education, and all members of the National Assembly who have struggled and succeeded in bringing our dream to reality. I want to commend the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajuddeen Abbas, who have worked tirelessly for the actualisation of the upgrade. They have done a great job for their people.”
In conclusion, the Vice-Chancellor asserted that the newly established university will play a crucial role in producing the necessary manpower to effectively manage the education sector in northern Nigeria and the country as a whole. With this transformative step, the Federal University of Education, Kano, is poised to make a lasting impact on the future of education in the region.
