The Vice-Chancellor of Igbinedion University in Edo State, Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, has been announced as the new Chairman of the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities.
According to a press statement by the CVCNU on Tuesday, Ezemonye takes over from Prof. Lilian Salami, who completes her tenure on December 1, 2024.
“The Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities held its annual meeting. A significant outcome of this gathering was the emergence of Professor Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye as the Chairman of the CVCNU.
“The Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, Professor Sagir Adamu Abbas, was elected as Alternate Chairman.
“The full composition of the CVCNU Executive Board is as follows: Professor Tanko Ishaya – Vice-Chancellor, University of Jos (Alternate Chairman, CVCNU Federal); Professor Kabiru Adeyemo, Vice-Chancellor, Lead City University (Alternate Chairman, CVCNU Private); Professor lbiyemi Olatunji-Bello, Vice-Chancellor, Lagos State University, Ojo (Chairman, CVCNU State); Professor Ayodeji Olayinka Johnson Agboola, Vice-Chancellor, Olabisi Onabanjo University (Alternate, CVCNU State).
“Professor Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye assumes the position from Professor Lilian Salami, who is completing her tenure as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin on 1st December 2024. His election marks him as the fifth male Vice-Chancellor to serve as chair.
“The CVCNU Secretariat extends its best wishes to the new Chairman and all Executive Board members as they embark on their leadership roles.”
Ezemonye is a professor of Ecotoxicology and Environmental Forensics with over 30 years of experience in teaching and research.
Igbinedion University describes him as a seasoned consultant on environmental safety and renewable energy.
