The Joint Action Committee of the Academic and Non-academic Staff Union of Bauchi State Tertiary Institutions has declared a two-week warning strike to express its grievance over the non implementation of the new national minimum wage in the state.

Declaring the warning strike on Thursday, the Bauchi State JAC Chairman, Abubakar Ahmed, explained that the industrial action was a move to complement an already expired 21-one-day ultimatum given to the Bauchi State government over the minimum wage implementation.

He said “Following the expiration of the 21-one-day ultimatum given to the Bauchi State government by JAC during its press conference of November 19, 2024 in which it demanded the implementation of the new national minimum wage, conpicass contediss among others the congress met today, December 12, 2024 to assess the level of commitment of the government regarding its demands.”

According to Ahmed, “JAC acknowledges the effort of the government for the mega minimum pays across the salaries of its members’ November 2024.

“This falls short of its expectations and demand for the full implementation of the new conpcass and contediss table as approved by the national salaries income and wages commission by the only body recognised by law to design salaries of tertiary institutions in Nigeria.”

The Union leader maintained that “The congress has rejected in totality the current table used, by the state government for the payment of the November 2024 salaries for the state tertiary institutions.

“JAC also frowned at the attitude of the government for not engaging its leadership throughout ultimatum period to resolve the issues at stake amicably.”

He added that the two-week warning strike to commence on Monday will see the need for further actions thereafter.

Ahmed enjoined all JAC members across the Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic Bauchi, the Adamu Tafawa Balewa College of Education Kangere, the Aminu Saleh College of Education, Azare, the AD Rufai College of Education and Legal Studies Misau, the Bauchi State College of Agriculture, the Bill and Millindagate College of Health Ningi to ensure total compliance.
