Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has called on alumni associations to play an active role in transforming the education sector, highlighting their unique position to contribute meaningfully to schools.
Represented by the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, the governor made this appeal during the 65th anniversary celebration of the Christ Apostolic Grammar School Old Students Association at Iperu Remo.
Governor Abiodun commended the old students for their initiatives, stating that such efforts reflected genuine commitment to advancing education without ulterior motives.
“When old students embark on projects for their alma mater, it stems from a deep love for the school’s progress,” he said.
The governor noted that the state government places a high priority on collaboration with old students’ associations to bridge gaps in the education sector.
He also highlighted various initiatives undertaken by his administration to improve education, including the construction of over 1,000 blocks of classrooms across the state, the distribution of furniture to schools, the recruitment of over 4,000 teachers, and the introduction of the smart classrooms policy and laboratory remodeling projects.
Abiodun acknowledged Christ Apostolic Grammar School as one of the state’s flagship institutions and emphasized the government’s commitment to creating a conducive learning environment.
Speaking at the event, the National President of CAGSOSA, Armstrong Akintunde, emphasized the importance of giving back to the school, describing the anniversary as “a call to service and unity.” He urged alumni to remain committed to creating a brighter future for current and future students.
Key moments of the event included the commissioning of an ultramodern gatehouse, a bus for students, and a minibus for the association’s executives, all donated by the alumni.
The governor praised these contributions, urging other alumni groups to emulate such efforts and help in building a robust educational foundation in the state.
