The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has confirmed an alleged bomb explosion at Tsangagyar Sani Uthman Islamiyya School in Kuchibuyi Village, Byazhin area of Abuja.

The tragic incident, which occurred on January 6, 2025, at around 11:00 AM, resulted in the deaths of two principal suspects who were tampering with an improvised explosive device (IED).

According to a statement from the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the Command’s Bomb Squad verified that remnants of the IED were recovered from the scene. “The FCT Police Command regrets to inform the public of a tragic incident involving a suspected bomb explosion,” the statement read.

The police were alerted by the Sarki of Kuchibuyi, prompting a swift response from operatives, including the Command’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team and the Area Commander of Kubwa. The area was cordoned off to ensure public safety and facilitate investigations, while victims were evacuated and provided with medical attention.

Preliminary investigations revealed that three men from Katsina visited the school’s owner, Mallam Adamu Ashimu, and allegedly brought the explosive device. SP Adeh confirmed, “Tragically, two of the men died in the explosion while tampering with the IED on the school veranda, while the third man and a female trader sustained severe injuries and are currently receiving treatment under police guard.”

Mallam Adamu Ashimu has been taken into custody for questioning as investigations continue. Commissioner of Police, FCT, Olatunji Disu, has urged the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities or items to the authorities. Further updates on the investigation will be communicated in due course.
