Aare Afe Babalola, the founder and chancellor of Afe Babalola University Ado-Ekiti (ABUAD), has announced a new minimum wage of N77,000 for the institution’s staff, effective from November 2024. This decision exceeds the N70,000 minimum wage set by the federal government for public workers.
Professor Smaranda Olarinde, Vice Chancellor of ABUAD, made this announcement on Monday during the 15th anniversary celebrations of the university’s academic activities. She shared details from the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 ABUAD Staff Assessment and Performance Evaluation Review (SAPER) Report. According to Professor Olarinde, ABUAD staff have already been benefiting from the wage increase since last year.
In addition to the pay raise, the Vice Chancellor lauded Babalola’s generosity for ensuring that all staff received their annual leave bonuses for 2024 and the traditional Christmas gifts. She expressed gratitude for his continued commitment to the welfare of ABUAD employees, saying, “This generous decision, following the earlier salary adjustment, demonstrates the founder’s deep commitment to the wellbeing of every staff member of ABUAD.”
A total of 452 staff members, including 40 Professors and 46 Readers, were assessed during the period under review. These senior staff members were recommended for external assessment, further underscoring the university’s focus on academic excellence and staff development.
