The 2010 graduating class of Mayflower School Ikenne, Remo, Ogun State, has donated solar-powered streetlights to their alma mater.
According to a Thursday statement from the alumni executives, the unveiling of the project was done during the recently concluded 69th Mayflower Founders Day Celebrations organised by the Mayflower Old Students Association.
The 2010 class successfully installed solar-powered streetlights along the roads leading to the male and female students’ hostels.
This initiative, according to the alumni body, not only enhances security but also ensures safer movement for students, particularly at night, while promoting sustainability through renewable energy.
“The project is a reflection of the class of 2010’s enduring bond and their commitment to improving the lives of current students. It stands as a shining example of how alumni can come together to create a lasting impact that resonates far beyond their time at the school,” the statement said.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony held on January 25, the Chairman of the Class Set, Hassan Kolawole, said, “This project is a dream come true for every member of our class. It embodies our shared vision to give back to the school that shaped us and to contribute meaningfully to the welfare of its students.
“We are immensely grateful to the Mayflower Old Students Association executives led by our President, Otunba Wale Abdul, for inspiring and encouraging younger class sets like ours to engage in projects that uphold the school’s legacy. Together, we continue to keep the torch aloft.”
The Vice Chairman of the class, Funmilayo Alao, in the same vein, said the day marked a very auspicious day in the journey of the class.
“We are witnessing an exciting full-circle moment because just about 15 years ago, we were students of this great citadel of knowledge going out into the world in furtherance of our academic journey, taking along with us the discipline and steadfastness instilled in us from Mayflower, and today, we are back to impact positively the lives of the current students of our dear Mayflower School. It is really a thing of pride for every member of our class.”
The class set noted that the gesture exemplified the true spirit of alumni collaboration and served as a call to action for other sets to join in strengthening the MOSA community.
