The acting vice-chancellor of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, Edo State, Prof. Asomwan Adagbonyin, has warned newly admitted students of the consequences of engaging in cultism.
Adagbonyin gave the warning at the matriculation and oath-taking ceremony of 4,051 freshers, adding that the University has zero tolerance for cultism and other anti-social vices.
The new students who subscribed to the relevant oath of matriculation were drawn from 11 faculties of the University.
According to him, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma is dedicated to nurturing intellectual curiosity, critical thinking, and lifelong learning.
He, therefore advised: “Be focused on the vision and mission of your studentship. Do not be led astray by bad friends; use social media with wisdom and shun all evil associations including cultism. Do not de-market yourself or your University.
“Embrace the opportunities that lie ahead, explore new horizons and strive for academic excellence in all your endeavours.
“I urge you to engage actively in your studies, to seek knowledge beyond the confines of the classroom and to challenge yourselves to reach new heights of academic achievement.”
He added: “Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma prides itself on its rich cultural heritage and its commitment to fostering an inclusive and harmonious environment where every individual is valued and respected.
“I encourage you to embrace diversity, to celebrate differences, and to contribute positively to the vibrant tapestry of our campus community.”
Professor Adagbonyin reminded them that they are bound to obey all the rules and regulations guiding them as students of the University and that a breach of the oath they subscribed comes with consequences
