As part of its Youth Development Cause, the MTN Scholarship provides an annual platform for recognising and rewarding dedicated and high-performing students across Nigerian public tertiary institutions.
Its flagship programme since 2010 is open to eligible 300-level students studying Science & Technology-related courses in Nigerian public tertiary institutions (Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education).
Three hundred (300) successful students are awarded scholarships worth ₦200,000 annually till graduation, provided they maintain the required grades.
The MTN Foundation scholarship is made up of the following categories;
- MTN Science and Technology Scholarship Scheme (MTN STSS)
- MTN Scholarship Scheme for Blind Students (MTN SSBS)
Eligibility criteria
- MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS) and MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS) is open to Nigerian students in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institution (Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education).
- MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS) is open to 300-level students studying Science & Technology-related courses in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions (Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education). The application is open to students who have completed their second semester 200 level examinations going to the 300 level and students currently in their 300 level, as MTN understands that the academic calendar is not aligned across all public tertiary institutions.
- MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS) is open to 200 & 300 level Blind students studying any course in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions (Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education). However, for blind students studying Law, which is a 5-year course, only 300 level students can apply for the MTN Scholarship.
- STEM Students in Public Universities and Colleges of Education must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) score of 3.0/4.0 or 3.5/5.0 (second-class upper credit)
- STEM Students in Public Polytechnics must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.0 (upper credit) from the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) Programme and must have secured admission into the Higher National Diploma (HND) Programme.
- Direct Entry level STEM students must have a minimum CGPA of 3.0 (upper credit) from the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) program. They must have secured admission into 300 level/3rd year in a Public University.
- Blind Students in Universities or Colleges of Education must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.5
- Blind Students in Public Polytechnics must have a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.0 from the Ordinary National Diploma (OND) Program. They must have secured admission into the Higher National Diploma (HND) Programme.
Application procedure and deadline
The MTN Foundation Science and Technology Scholarship application can be completed through the online portal. Application deadline is June 18, 2023.
