The 2024 UNESCO Internship Program offers students and recent graduates a unique opportunity to gain practical work experience and learn about UNESCO’s global mandate. Through this internship, participants will enhance their academic and technical knowledge while contributing to the organization’s core projects and programs. This report provides an in-depth look at the benefits, requirements, and application process for those interested in applying.

Benefits:
The UNESCO Internship Program provides interns with practical, hands-on work experience in a multicultural environment. Interns gain exposure to the workings of an international organization, with opportunities to contribute to real-world projects. The program is an excellent platform for building academic and professional skills, offering invaluable insight into UNESCO’s programs. While the internship is unpaid, it offers training and experiences that can significantly enhance future career prospects, including the possibility of permanent employment within international organizations.

Eligibility:
To be eligible for the 2024 UNESCO Internship Program, applicants must meet several key criteria. Candidates must be at least 20 years old and either currently enrolled in a graduate program (Master’s, PhD, or equivalent) or have recently graduated within the last 12 months. Applicants should have an excellent command of English or French, with knowledge of both languages being an added advantage. They must also demonstrate strong computer and office software skills and possess the ability to work well in an international team environment. Notably, applicants who have only completed a bachelor’s degree but are not enrolled in a graduate program are not eligible.

Application process:
Interested candidates should apply via the official UNESCO careers portal. The application process is straightforward but time-sensitive, as applicants have only one hour to complete the online form. Candidates are encouraged to have all necessary documents and translations ready before starting. While internships are available across UNESCO’s global offices, placement is highly competitive, and applicants may not receive individual responses. If an applicant is selected, they will be contacted directly by a UNESCO manager within six months of applying.

Application deadline: December 31, 2024.
