The wife of Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Mrs. Mary-Maudaline Nwifuru, has promised to donate Five Hundred Thousand Naira (₦500,000.00) monthly through her foundation (BERWO) for the feeding of visually impaired students at the State Special School in Opefia, Izzi Local Government Area.

Mrs. Nwifuru made the promise when she visited the school yesterday in Izzi Local Government.

According to her, this commitment aligns with her foundation, Better Health for Rural Women, Children, and Internally Displaced Persons (BERWO), which aims to improve the lives of those in need.

Mrs. Nwifuru emphasized that people with visual impairments face numerous barriers to full inclusion and participation in community life. She also donated One Million Naira (₦1,000,000.00) to the students.

She then promised that her foundation would enhance the safety of the students by providing an emergency number to report possible incidents, adding that this support would boost their sense of belonging.

According to her, “My foundation will continue to create a conducive environment for children and other vulnerable individuals to have equal access to rights and enjoy the socio-economic benefits that accrue from developmental processes.”

The Principal of the school, Mr. Boniface Nome, expressed gratitude to Governor Francis Nwifuru and his wife for their unwavering support. He also appealed for additional assistance, including new hostel accommodations, laboratory equipment, and library facilities tailored to the needs of visually impaired students.

Mr. Boniface Nome commended Governor Francis Nwifuru and his wife for promoting and advocating equitable access to public services for persons with visual impairments and for building their capacities.

Nome noted that the school has come this far because of the enthusiasm of the students, the support of parents and guardians, and the dedication of the staff.
Gloria Igwe, one of the special students, appreciated Mrs. Nwifuru for her love and support for the physically challenged and other less privileged individuals in the state.

Mr. Benedict Oyoko, Assistant Comptroller of the Nigeria Correctional Service in charge of Abakaliki Custodial Centre, and Rev. Sister Nwanneka Udoh, Hospital Administrator at Mile Four Abakaliki, expressed their appreciation for her commitment and support for inmates and patients in the state.

Highlights of the visit included the presentation of 200 exercise books and other educational materials, bags of rice, gari, soap, and cash gifts to the school.

The bags of rice, gari, soap, clothes, cash gifts, and other items were distributed to the Community-Based Rehabilitation Centre, Remand Home, and other facilities visited.
