Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has reiterated his commitment to prioritizing education across all levels within the state.
Speaking at the 8th Founder’s Day Ceremony of the Edo State University Uzairue, Governor Obaseki underscored the pivotal role of higher education in the transformation of both Edo State and Nigeria as a whole.
Governor Obaseki, represented by Prof. Theophilus Agweda, acting deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration of Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma, applauded the management of Edo State University Uzairue for its steadfast commitment to delivering quality education.
He assured continued support for the university, emphasizing its crucial role in the educational landscape of the state.
Addressing the gathering, Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Emeritus Professor Thomas Audu, emphasized the significance of the Founder’s Day Ceremony in honoring the institution’s founding principles and contributions to society. He praised Edo State University Uzairue as a beacon of academic excellence within the Nigerian university system.
The event also featured a thought-provoking lecture titled “A Clarion Call For Diversity and Inclusion In University Administration,” delivered by Lady Celerina Mercy Ojomo, former Acting Registrar of the University of Benin. Lady Ojomo highlighted the importance of diversity and inclusion in fostering an equitable and supportive environment for all stakeholders within university settings.
In alignment with the theme of diversity and inclusion, Olayemi Durotimi Akinwumi, Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Lokoja, emphasized the necessity of guiding university administration with these principles for effective management.
Emmanuel Aluyor, in his welcome address, celebrated the achievements of Edo State University Uzairue, highlighting its recognition as the 10th best university in Nigeria, the 2nd best state university in Nigeria, and the top university in the south-south geopolitical zone.
He also emphasized the university’s international collaborations, offering students invaluable opportunities for global exchange programs.
Aluyor highlighted the university’s own teaching hospital, the Edo State University Uzairue Teaching Hospital Auchi, which plays a crucial role in training medical students and enhancing healthcare delivery in the region.
