In yet another impressive academic feat, Education District II of Lagos State has proven its excellence as three of its students emerged victorious at the Kings and Queens Mathematics Competition and the 2024 Mathematical Olympiad, held on December 5th and 7th, 2024, respectively.
The Kings and Queens Mathematics Competition, organized by Pearls Angel Educational Consultancy, witnessed outstanding performances from Master Augustine Rachel of Gbagada Senior Grammar School, Bariga, and Adegboye Isaac of Ikorodu Senior High School, Ikorodu. Augustine clinched first place, earning a cash prize of ₦2 million, while Adegboye secured second place, winning ₦500,000.
In another remarkable achievement, Ms. Amadi Debora Onyedikachi of Lanre Awolokun High School was awarded Best Female Mathematician at the Mathematics Olympiad, organized by the Lagos Chapter of the Mathematical Association of Nigeria (MAN).
The competitions took place at prominent venues: the Multilingual Multi-purpose Hall in Maryland hosted the Kings and Queens Mathematics Competition, while Lagos City College, Yaba served as the venue for the Mathematical Olympiad.
Speaking on the students’ exceptional success, the Tutor General/Permanent Secretary of Education District II, Mrs. Anike Adekanye, lauded their efforts and dedication. She remarked, “This is a confirmation of the hard work and commitment of our teachers as well as the students to achieving academic excellence at all levels.”
Mrs. Adekanye emphasized the importance of mathematics, noting that, “All hands are on deck to make sure that mathematics as a subject is given priority as it has become a mainstay in academic requirements for further studies in the country, and even beyond.”
She also expressed gratitude to Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for his unwavering support for education, saying, “The Governor has always placed education on the front burner of his administration, creating a level playground for all children to have access to affordable and quality education while leveraging technology.”
The Tutor General further praised the teachers and principals for their dedication to nurturing student success in the district.
