The Deputy governor of Edo State, Engr. Marvellous Godwins Omobayo, has stated that the business of providing quality education for Nigerian children and wards is for everybody.
He stated this on Saturday in Benin, the state capital, at the opening ceremony of Lebarty American Leadership Academy.
Omobayo who was represented at the event by the Senior Admin Officer in his office, Mrs. Ganiyat Uwaifo, noted that the government of Governor Godwin Obaseki had since inception in 2016, placed priority on providing quality education by investinghuge resources in transforming the sector.
According to him, despite the economic challenges besetting Nigeria, it was heartwarming to see the management of the Academy put up this structure for conducive teaching and learning.
He said: “Like they say, education is everybody’s business. While quality education, as being offered by your Academy, can only be provided by well-meaning individuals and organizations whose passion is to positively impact society and humanity.
“No doubt, Lebarty American Leadership Academy is a unique citadel of learning where children can learn for exemplary leadership, sound ethical and moral values, as well as fundamental principles of life.
“As a responsible government, the present administration under the purposeful leadership of Governor Godwin Obaseki since assumption of office in 2016, has invested huge resources in transforming the education sector as well as training and retraining of teaching staff in the educational system.
“lt is on record that the Edo-Best program of the present administration has become a model for other States in Nigeria and also won many international recognitions, including the World Bank.”
Omobayo congratulated the management and staff of Lebarty American Leadership Academy for its outstanding feat and being formidable partners with government in advancing the frontiers at quality education.
Earlier in his remarks, the proprietor of Lebarty American Leadership Academy, Okenfe Aigbe-Lebarty, urged Nigerians to invest in the lives and future of children by providing quality and functional educational system that caters for thd needs of the children.
According to the United States of America-based educationist, children of the downtrodden also deserve quality education.
“I said to myself, I need to give the children in the village a school of American standard. We all came from the village and must give back to our people. Giving back to my people in the village is a way of supporting children at the grassroots to have a better future.
“Education is not for the rich alone, hence I sited the school in the village to give the children at the grassroot an opportunity for a better future,” he said.
