Ekiti State Governor, Mr Biodun Oyebanji, has pledged the state government’s continued support for the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, in its infrastructure development efforts.
Oyebanji stated that this support is aimed at repositioning the institution as one of the leading centres of higher learning in the country. He also praised FUOYE’s Governing Council for the significant development of the university in the 11 years since its establishment.
The governor made this statement on Monday in Ado Ekiti while receiving members of the university’s Governing Council, led by its chairman, Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba, and the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abayomi Fasina.
He commended FUOYE for championing academic excellence among over 280 public universities in Nigeria, saying, “I am impressed with the achievements of FUOYE’s staff and students in academic excellence and research.”
“I must congratulate FUOYE for having you as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Council; I must also thank the President for appointing such a capable person as the chair of the university’s council.
“I assure you that we will collaborate to realise the indelible legacies you aim to leave behind. On the issues you raised, especially regarding the Certificate of Occupancy, the state will address this immediately. We will also consider the request for fencing, and I can confirm that work has already begun on the road from Oye to Are Ekiti,” the governor said.
Earlier, the FUOYE Council Chairman, Ndoma-Egba, had praised the hospitality of the Ekiti people, which he credited as the primary factor driving the university’s remarkable growth and development.
Ndoma-Egba said, “Your Excellency, let me congratulate you once again. You are making significant strides in education, agriculture, infrastructure, health, and other sectors, all with minimal fanfare.”
He further stated that during his tenure at FUOYE, he would do everything in his power to stabilise the university’s academic calendar, urging the unions to adhere to relevant laws in managing their grievances.
