Ekiti State Deputy Governor, Monisade Afuye, has revealed that the state government, under the leadership of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, allocated a substantial N2 billion towards the comprehensive upgrade of schools across the 16 local government areas and 18 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).
The announcement came during a pivotal stakeholders’ sensitisation workshop on implementing human capital development, held in Ado-Ekiti.
Afuye highlighted that human capital development has been positioned as the third pillar of the government’s policy since Governor Oyebanji assumed office, underscoring the administration’s unwavering commitment to fostering a more productive population.
Expanding on the government’s multifaceted approach, Afuye emphasized the considerable investments made in healthcare, specifically targeting primary healthcare.
The objective is to address pressing issues such as maternal and child mortality, low life expectancy, and premature deaths within the state.
Commending the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Afuye acknowledged the release of the first tranche of funds through the National Office of Human Capital Development Programme.
This financial infusion is poised to kickstart transformative projects across critical sectors within Ekiti State.
The deputy governor proudly shared the positive strides made in education, health, and human capital development, hailing them as clear and resonant testimonies to the government’s substantial investments in these pivotal areas of the economy.
Highlighting the government’s proactive stance, Afuye disclosed that, from January to the present, Ekiti has successfully recruited 1,500 teachers for primary education and an additional 500 for secondary schools.
The commitment to healthcare was equally evident, with a focus on universal health coverage, unhindered access to family planning, antenatal care delivery, free treatment for children under five, and complimentary malaria treatment.
She underscored the government’s recognition of the vital role played by health workers, announcing the approval of new salary structures for those in the primary healthcare development cadre as a morale-boosting measure.
“The current government has also approved the payment of new salary structures for health workers in the primary healthcare development cadre to serve as a morale booster,” she said.
