Two students of the Federal Polytechnic, Bida, Niger State have been found dead in the sitting room of the male counterpart at the Federal Medical Centre Quarters.

The lifeless bodies of the students identified as Oladapo Yusuf, 28, of Osun State and Aisha Abubakar, 22, of Lagos Street, Minna were discovered in the room lying on the floor with a plate of unfinished food by their side.

The bodies of the two students of the institution were discovered on Sunday morning after neighbours did not see them when the day broke.

Sources in the compound who did not disclose their identities said the dead students could have been victims of food poisoning, stressing that an autopsy might uncover the actual cause of death.

Their remains were taken for burial by 4pm on Sunday in accordance with Islamic rites.

The spokesman for the Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident on Tuesday and said leftover food and some tablets were found at the scene.

“On June 8, 2024, at about 15:30 hours information was received that two lifeless bodies of a man identified as Mr Bam and an HND 1 female student of Federal Poly, Bida, were found dead in their lodge at ‘D’ Aliyu House, Kobbo, Bida.

“The DPO of B Division, Bida, led police operatives to the scene. The door to the room was forcefully opened and it was discovered that the bodies were lying dead on the floor in the sitting room.

“A left-over food and some tablets were discovered at the scene and were taken for medical analysis. There was no sign of struggle or any mark of violence observed on the bodies. The corpses were removed to the FMC Bida for autopsy. The incident is under investigation,” Abiodun said.
