Former education minister laments thuggery during Lagos state elections

A former Minister of Education,Oby Ezekwesili, has expressed her concern over the high levels of violence and intimidation during the just concluded governorship and state houses of assembly elections in Lagos State.

She lamented the activities of thugs and fears that this could become the new normal if Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, becomes President of Nigeria.

Ezekwesili, who is known for her advocacy of good governance, transparency, and accountability, expressed her worry that the disregard for the rule of law witnessed in the Lagos State gubernatorial election could escalate if Tinubu becomes President.

In a tweet, she criticized the violence unleashed by thugs and some criminal gang against innocent citizens in Lagos, stating that it is a preview of what Tinubu might bring to the center of power. Ezekwesili is concerned that such reckless behaviour will have dire consequences for Nigeria’s future.

Her tweet reads: “The mayhem @officialABAT and his criminal enterprise gang unleashed in Lagos today against innocent citizens is what he wants to assume the Office of President and scale to the rest of Nigeria in the name of ‘controlling the center”.
