Governor Seyi Makinde has officially signed into law the Bill for the Establishment, Incorporation, Constitution, and Functions of Abiola Ajimobi Technical University, Ibadan.

This transformative legislation ushers in a new era for the university, encompassing institutional and structural reforms, including a name change to honor the late former Governor Abiola Ajimobi.

The newly ratified law marks a significant milestone, as it enables the university to undergo a comprehensive rebranding to Abiola Ajimobi Technical University. This change underscores the institution’s renewed focus on technical education and skill development, essential for fostering economic growth and innovation in the state.

A notable feature of the new legislation is the provision for the appointment of a governing council. This body will be tasked with steering the university’s operations, ensuring robust governance, and maintaining the institution’s commitment to excellence.

The establishment of the governing council is anticipated to enhance transparency, accountability, and strategic oversight within the university.

Governor Makinde articulated his vision for the university’s future in a video address, emphasizing the critical role that technical education plays in the socio-economic advancement of Oyo State.

He reiterated his administration’s dedication to improving educational infrastructure and expanding access to high-quality education for all residents.

“Today, we take a significant leap towards advancing technical education in Oyo State. Abiola Ajimobi Technical University will stand as a pillar of innovation, research, and skill development, equipping our youth with the tools they need to thrive in the modern economy,” Governor Makinde remarked.

The signing ceremony was attended by prominent education stakeholders, government officials, and media representatives, who praised the governor’s commitment to prioritizing education and creating a conducive environment for learning and development.

The establishment of Abiola Ajimobi Technical University is expected to attract a diverse student body from across the region, offering a comprehensive array of technical and vocational programs that align with the evolving needs of the workforce. With the new law in place, the university is set to become a leading center for technical education, significantly contributing to the overall development of Oyo State and Nigeria.
