Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, on Thursday inaugurated the Governing Councils for two of the state’s three tertiary institutions—Abiola Ajimobi Technical University and Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH)—reaffirming his administration’s commitment to education and public health.
The inauguration took place in the state capital.
Dr. Adesola Kazeem Adeduntan was appointed as Chairman of Abiola Ajimobi Technical University and Professor Ayodeji Oludare Omole as Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of LAUTECH.
Announcing the appointments, Governor Makinde wrote: “This afternoon, we inaugurated the Governing Councils for two of our three State-owned universities – the Abiola Ajimobi Technical University led by Dr Adesola Kazeem Adeduntan as Chairman and the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) led by Professor Ayodeji Oludare Omole as the Pro Chancellor and Chairman.”
Speaking at the event, the Governor disclosed plans to bolster funding for the institutions.
He stated, “In my remarks, I confirmed that our administration is working on increasing the subventions to our State-owned universities to enable them meet their obligations.”
In a move that underscores his administration’s commitment to holistic development, Governor Makinde also highlighted upcoming healthcare projects targeting university communities.
“We are also going to build category 3 primary healthcare centres and provide ambulances for them this year,” he revealed.
He rounded off his address with commendations to the newly appointed council members.
“I also congratulated the Chairmen and Governing Council members of both universities and wished them every success as they carry out their responsibilities diligently for the benefit of the universities and our dear State.”
The newly constituted councils are expected to play pivotal roles in enhancing institutional governance and academic excellence in Oyo State.
