The Management of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State, has said it is mandatory for staff and students of the institution to always wear identity cards (ID Cards).

In a circular signed by the Registrar, Professor Olugbenga Arajulu, the decision was reached at the 182nd Regular meeting of the institution Senate held on 26th April 2023.

According to the statement, compulsory wearing of ID cards was a result of the level of insecurity in the country.

The circular further added that failure to comply with the directive will attract appropriate sanction, as any students or staff found defaulting the rule will be denied access to offices, classrooms, examination halls as well as an appropriate sanction.

The statement read: “The Senate, at its 182″ Regular meeting held on Wednesday, 26” April 2023 deliberated on the need for all students in the University to wear their identification cards (ID cards) at all times.

“The Senate, therefore, decided that students are to wear their identity cards at all times while on the University Campus. In the same vein, the Senate expressed the view that it is very important as well for all members of staff to wear their identification cards, considering the level of insecurity in the country.

“Therefore, for avoidance of doubt, it is lawful henceforth, that staff and students must wear their identity cards at all times. Any staff or student who fails to wear his/her identity card will be denied access to offices, classrooms, examination halls, etc. All are advised to comply with this directive, as failure to do so will attract appropriate sanction.”

However, some students in their reactions described the move as a good one as the level of insecurity heightening everyday.

“Wearing of identity cards outside the school premises will differentiate AAUAITES from others who are not students,” Lawal Adeniyi, a fresh graduate of Philosophy said.

She added that many students are fond of always leaving their identity card at home but this will reinforce them to always wear it.
