Investing in Minds, Securing the Future — Hon. Adeyemi Alli’s Summer Coaching Programme Sets the Pace

Not even a Nigerian political climate often defined by fleeting promises and self-serving gestures. It is refreshing — and deeply inspiring — to witness a public servant who takes youth empowerment as a personal responsibility.

Hon. Adeyemi Alli, Member of the House of Representatives representing Mushin 1 Federal Constituency, is one of such rare leaders.

With a consistent and visionary approach, he has once again demonstrated that leadership is not about occupying a seat, but about rising to the needs of the people — particularly the next generation.

Now in its sixth consecutive year, the Hon. Adeyemi Alli Free Summer Coaching Programme is more than an annual academic exercise; it is a lifeline for hundreds of students in Mushin. In a society where access to quality education remains uneven and, for many families, unaffordable, this initiative bridges a critical gap — and does so with admirable consistency.

From Monday, August 11 to Thursday, September 5, 2025, students across Mushin Constituency 1 will converge again at two designated centres for academic reinforcement and mentorship. Junior secondary school students will meet at Shokunbi Primary School, while their senior counterparts will gather at Majolate Primary School, both venues providing safe, accessible learning environments.

Running daily from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., this programme is designed not only to prepare students academically but also to keep them meaningfully engaged during the long summer break.

For many young people in underserved communities, idle time can easily become a trap — a slippery slope into the dangers of street life, peer pressure, and underachievement.

Hon. Alli’s intervention offers a powerful counter-narrative: education as empowerment, learning as liberation.

But beyond the logistics, what sets this initiative apart is the heart behind it. Hon. Alli is not acting out of political necessity. He is not reacting to public pressure or riding a wave of electoral opportunism. Instead, he has shown commitment over the years to nurturing the minds of the youth — recognizing that investing in education is the most powerful way to secure the future of a community.

It’s also important to note the ripple effect of such an initiative.

The coaching programme creates temporary jobs for volunteer teachers and coordinators, revives a sense of purpose in the local education ecosystem, and ignites parental interest in academic support.

For a constituency like Mushin, which has historically battled with socioeconomic challenges, the benefits are far-reaching.

Hon. Adeyemi Alli’s Free Summer Coaching Programme is a model worth replicating across the country. It is a reminder that visionary leadership can — and should — start with the classroom. That social change can take root when elected representatives take the initiative to teach, not just talk.
