The Joint Action Committee on Academics and Non-academic Staff Unions of Bauchi State-owned Tertiary Institutions on Thursday declared a total indefinite strike action over demands from the Bauchi State government.
While declaring the strike via an issued communique, the committee’s chairman, Abubakar Ahmed, explained that the decision follows the expiration of the two-week warning strike action embarked on by the Joint Action Committee of Academics and Non-academic Staff Unions of Bauchi State-owned Tertiary Institutions which lasted between 16th to 30th December 2024.
He expressed JAC’s dismay with the tactics of the government representatives towards resolving its demands.
The chairman insisted that the non-implementation of the new CONPCASS and CONTEDISS tables as demanded coupled with a lack of substantive and sincere commitment from the side of the government and employment of delay tactics to sabotage the good effort of Governor Bala Mohammed towards ensuring stability, proficiency and quality service delivery in the state-owned tertiary institutions necessitated the indefinite strike.
Ahmed also alleged that the government’s representatives were “Festering threats to intimidate the leadership of JAC and its members across all the tertiary institutions across the state.
“Consequently, the congress of the Joint Action Committee, after reviewing the position of the government representatives, resolved to embark on a total, indefinite, and comprehensive strike action commencing from Thursday 2nd January, 2025.
“JAC sympathises with the general public, especially our students and parents, for any inconveniences this industrial might cause.”
However, the JAC chairman assured that members will resume work once their demands are met.
Arewa PUNCH gathered that institutions affected by the strike include Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic, Bauchi; Adamu Tafawa Balewa College of Education, Kangere; A.D Rufai College of Education, Legal and General Studies, Misau; Aminu Saleh College of Education, Azare; Bauchi State College of Agriculture, Bauchi and Bill and Melinda Gates College of Health Sciences and Technology, Ningi.
