The management of Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic, Zaria, has commended Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State for increasing the retirement age of academic staff from 60 to 65 years.

The Rector of the polytechnic, Dr Mohammed Abdullahi, expressed gratitude to the governor for the decision, which he said aligned with national policies on education and human capital development.

“We are grateful to Governor Uba Sani for increasing the retirement age of our academic staff,” Abdullahi said in a press statement issued by the institute’s Secretary for Information and Protocol, Abdullahi Ibrahim Shehu, on Sunday.

“This decision is a clear demonstration of the governor’s commitment to the welfare of our staff and the development of education in the state.

“We commend the governor for this bold step, which will have a positive impact on the quality of education in our institution,” it added.

The statement commended the efforts of the Commissioner for Education, Prof Muhammad Sani Bello, and the leadership of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, Nubapoly chapter, in supporting the policies.

“Their efforts have been instrumental in ensuring that the welfare of our staff is prioritised, and we are grateful for their support,” the statement read.

The institution pledged to support Sani’s administration and its policies.

The PUNCH reports that the governor issued an Executive Order on Thursday, which increased the retirement age of academic staff in Kaduna State-owned tertiary institutions to 65 years.

The decision to increase the retirement age was made after a meeting between the governor and academic unions of state-owned tertiary institutions.
